For me winter fly fishing up here can be summed up easily in one word- TRAVEL! While there are a few stream trout opportunities, weather permitting, it’s nice to take some time to see what other regions have to offer- especially those that aren’t covered in several feet of snow and ice!
A close relationship with the owner/operator of Towee Boats in McMinnville, Tennessee has opened up a whole new world of winter fishing for us northern folks. With several rivers and many beautiful miles of water this region is home to an excellent musky fishery that gets relatively little angling pressure. The relatively warm weather offers us an extended season similar to what we experience in the fall up here. January, February and March offer a great shot at trophy muskies as well as a welcome relief from the cold!
